Love Unconditional

Today is the beautiful day set apart for love here in America: Valentine’s Day.

I’ve never been one to be too hung up on the holiday. I believe it’s a made up holiday to squeeze money out of the consumer during the long stretch between Christmas and Mother’s Day. (And if the crowded aisle of Walgreen’s Valentine’s Day cards last night was any indication, they are getting every cent!)

Thinking over my experiences with love, I have kept myself pretty guarded. Yet once I love, I love hard. Despite my attempts to shield myself from pain, I have had my share of heartbreaks. Whether it was a guy I was dating, a friendship that went sour, or a loved one that disappointed me, my heart has been bruised more than once.

There has, however, been One who has remained constantly faithful, constantly compassionate, constantly invested in showing me the greatest love: my Heavenly Father. No matter what, He has always been there for me.

He was the first One to show me love, by creating me in His image and blessing me with the breath of life. He was the One who sent His only Son to die for me, so that I wouldn’t have to go to hell and be anguished for all eternity.

Even those times where I played Him dirty, forgot about Him, disobeyed Him, ignored Him, and let Him down, He still chose to show me love. He still gives me love even when I am unlovable. I don’t deserve an ounce of His good mercy, yet He refreshes my supply every day!

So, today, I would like to acknowledge the unfailing love of my Heavenly Father. Lord, I am so thankful that You chose me to be Your own. You continue to choose me in spite of my shortcomings. For that, I am truly grateful.

Verse of the Day: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God… I John 3:1a
