Thanksgiving Friday!

Happy Friday!

I'm so thankful for God's presence. Every time I felt like I was slipping, I reached out for His hand, and He was there to hold me and carry me through. It's so good to know that our Heavenly Father is always there. We are never forsaken. We are never left alone. Thank You, Lord, for always being there for me.

I'm also grateful for a sound mind. I was debating withdrawing from my class, but I decided to stay with it. I am getting some of the best grades that I've ever gotten since starting school! Even with all the distractions and things going on, I have been able to keep up my studies and have been working hard. Hard work pays off! Thank You, Lord, for giving me a sound mind, a mind that's willing to work, and a mind that is able to learn.

Finally, I'm thankful for the love that has been shown to me this week. It's like everywhere I turn, there is someone there showing me love and warmth. I am taking notice of how great this feels, and I am definitely going to pay it forward. I want to make sure that someone else feels the kind of appreciation and care that I've been given.

Life In The Spirit

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

As believers in Christ, we have received the precious gift of eternal life. We are no longer bound to sin and death, but we are able to live a redeemed and everlasting life. Because our spirit man has been transformed, our outer man should reflect that change as well.

Since we have accepted the Lord as our Savior, we were blessed with the Holy Spirit as our guide and comforter. In the same way that He has quickened and changed us internally, He would like to do the same externally. Our every day life should be influenced by the Holy Spirit that dwells inside us.

In order to live by the Spirit, we have to acknowledge the Spirit of God in everything we do. Our every step should be made in light of the Holy Spirit. When we face challenges and decisions, we should allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us along the right path.

When we allow God's Spirit to lead us, wonderful things happen: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22, 23

As we follow the Spirit, we are changed and become more like Him! Soon we will be living and acting in ways that reflect His living on the inside of us. We will be showing outwardly the blessing that we received inwardly.

Today, allow yourself to walk after the Spirit. Keep yourself attuned to God's voice, make choices in line with God's Word, and show the fruit of the Spirit as you go about your day.

Verse of the Day: For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:8

Following God's Instructions

We serve a detailed God. When He does something, He does it well. Often, when the Lord needed someone to help facilitate His plans, God gave detailed instructions on what He wanted them to do.

Noah was given exact measurements and dimensions for building the ark. The people of Israel were given express instructions regarding the construction of the tabernacle, the dress of the priests, and how to go before the Lord in worship. When God was leading Gideon, He showed him exactly how to pick out the troops who would lead Gideon to victory.

If God has placed a dream in your heart, you can be sure that He has a detailed path of how to get you to your destiny. All you have to do is follow what He tells you. Tune your ear to hear the voice of the Lord, and you will not be led down the wrong way.

Many of God's instructions may seem incorrect.

I imagine the servants who filled the water pots with water were wondering how Jesus was going to get more wine if the pots were already full. Yet, when they went to serve, wine had shown up!

I'm sure both the people of Jericho and the nation of Israel were curious as to how God was going to lead the Israelites to victory over such a strong and powerful country. Yet, when the Israelites obeyed God and lifted up a mighty shout - the walls of Jericho came tumbling down.

When God gives you instructions, follow. Don't hesitate, second guess, or ignore His requests. We serve an all-knowing God. You can trust His every word. He will lead you to an expected end of victory. All you have to do is follow after Him.

Today, listen to the Lord's voice. Do what He asks of you no matter what it is. And then watch how the Lord brings you to your destiny in Him.

Verse of the Day: Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. Deuteronomy 13:4

Worthy Walk

Paul exhorted the Ephesians to "walk worthy" of their calling in God. He asked them to remain humble, patient and loving towards one another. He told them to make every effort to stay united and peaceful.

Are you walking worthy of what God has called you to do?

God has called each of us to a special, specific task. Our lives are meant to be lived fulfilling His purpose and plan. Yet, we have to make sure that we are living in a way that honors the call of God on our lives.

No matter what the Lord has placed in our laps, whether it is in or out of the church, we have to make Him proud in how we live it out. Everything we do should be done in excellence, for we serve an excellent God. Our attitudes should be full of love, because our God is a loving God. We should not have any malice or discord with our fellow man. The God we serve is a God of unity.

Each and every thing we do should reflect that we are called of God and living according to His purpose. People should look at us and see God's love emanating from our beings. When others interact with us, they should feel the spirit of God in how we carry ourselves and conduct business.

Are you walking worthy of what God has called you to do? Are you bringing the Lord honor in how you live? The Word of God says that we are to do everything to God's glory. (1 Corinthians 10:31) So, your every word, deed, action, thought, endeavor should be done in a way to glorify God.

Today, strive to walk worthy of what God has called you to do. Actively work to be humble, patient, loving, united and peaceful. God has given you something precious, so live your life honoring your gift of life.

Verse of the Day: I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3

Afternoon Ti: Working For the Good

This past week was a true week of faith for me and my family. We have had to stand, and having done all to stand, stand firm in the face of fear, doubt, and anguish. And as we stood, God proved Himself faithful. In the midst of our mourning, the Lord kept us with joy. In the midst of sorrow, we found we had peace. Where we should have despaired, we found ourselves full of His everlasting love.

Even though I may not be happy with or even understand God's decisions, I was reminded yesterday that all things work together for the good of those who love God.

I can only imagine how Abraham felt as he believed God for the son the Lord had promised him. Who knows what thoughts swirled through his mind as the years ticked away, and he still had no heir. Yet, Abraham believed God, and God stayed true to his word and gave Abraham a son in his old age.

Or, think of Noah, tasked with the feat of making something he had never seen for a phenomenon he had never heard of. Still, Noah worked faithfully in the face of ridicule from his neighbors believing what God had told him. The Lord sent the rain like He promised, and Noah was delivered from the flood.

Even Daniel had to trust that God would stand with him as he continued to worship the Lord in the midst of a pagan nation. And when his very life was threatened for following God, Daniel chose to lose his life because of how much love he had for the Lord. As a result, God honored his public stance and delivered Daniel from the mouths of the lions.

God works everything together for the good of those who love Him. It is up to us to cultivate that love, to deepen and strengthen it. God is always there willing to pour out His love for us, we just have to get in His presence and receive it. When that love is there, nothing can change, shake, or remove it. And that love will carry you through anything and cause you to overcome everything.

No matter what you may be facing, draw on the love that God has for you. Don't let circumstances pull you away from your relationship with the Lord. Press into His presence. Come closer to His throne. Continue in talks with Him, and allow Him to work everything out for your good. Allow yourself to experience the faithfulness of God.

Verse of the Day: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Thankgiving Friday!

It's a happy Friday again... No, it's a joyful Friday today! The joy of the Lord is my strength.

Today I celebrate my father's homegoing. I am so blessed. I am blessed to have had such a wonderful father in my life. I have learned so much from him. My faith, my view on family, my outlook on marriage... so many aspects of my life are colored by my father's tutelage and example. Thank You, Lord, for blessing me to have such a treasure as my own.

I'm also thankful today for my family. Both my blood relatives and spiritual relatives have been so supportive during this time. They have been such a strength to my mom, sister, and myself. I don't know how we could have survived this week without them. I am so honored to have them in my circle. Thanks, God, for giving them to me!

Finally, again, I am thankful for the Lord's perfect peace that has passed all my understanding! I can truly say that I have not been worried or agitated at all this week. That alone means so much. God, thank You for being there for me.

I thank God for you all as well, readers. I appreciate all of your prayers and words of encouragement during this time. God bless you all!

Perfect Peace

This week I have been amazed by the presence of God's peace. It is literally all around me. In the midst of all the planning, preparing, and busyness for my father's homegoing, an inner calm has been present that has helped carry me through this difficult time in my life.

I have been reminded of the words of David: I have never seen the righteous forsaken! God has given my family every single thing we needed. I can only stand in amazement at how God orchestrated everything down to the smallest detail. He is truly an Awesome God!

Yes, my heart is hurting. Yes, there are some questions that I don't have answers to. Yes, I am wondering why... Still, God is faithful. Still, I feel His love surrounding me. Still, I have His joy giving me strength to keep going.

When you take the time to build a strong foundation, you will have what you need to face whatever God allows to come your way. When you take the time to develop a relationship with your Heavenly Father, it won't matter how loud the storm gets; you will still hear His voice guiding you through it all.

Make sure you are keeping your spirit in tune with God. Don't allow the troubles and cares of this world to separate you from His love. Even if your skies are blue, you should cling to His hand all the more. Life is full of twists and turns, and you never know what may be on the horizon. Yet, if you remain firmly in the Lord's grasp, your ride will be smooth, and you'll be able to remain steadfast in your journey.

Verse of the Day: I have been young, and [now] am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Psalm 37:25

Leaning on the Father

My father passed away on yesterday afternoon. He battled for a long time against ALS, and he is now with his Heavenly Father probably getting his dance on. I am glad that he is no longer fighting and can now be at rest.

I thank you all in advance for your thoughts and prayers. My family and I are doing surprisingly well. We serve a God who can carry us through anything, and right now we're leaning on Him.

I will try my hardest to keep up the posts this week, but thank you for understanding if I don't get to it one or two days this week.

Verse of the Day:  I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1

Thanksgiving Friday

Happy Friday! ♪ I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart to stayyyy! ♪ It's so great to be a child of the King! I'm smiling on the outside and on the inside, and it feels so good!

This week, I'm thankful for God's Presence. Just being able to step back from any situation, quiet down myself, and hear from the Holy Spirit is priceless! Recognizing and utilizing the fact that God is always there to help guide me has helped me so much this week. Without His wisdom and love, I would have lost it. Thank You, Lord, for Your presence!

I'm also so appreciative for God's wisdom. This week I was able to attend a leadership conference that opened my eyes to some areas I was missing. I was able to learn how to be more effective and make a greater impact in my role. It was also nice to just sit back and be ministered to without having to do any of the work. I got to practice being Mary this week, and I enjoyed it. (Luke 10) Thanks, God!

Finally, I'm thankful for a changed mind. No longer will I allow myself to be sucked into negativity. I will not let other people's emotions or problems bring me down. I will keep the mind of Christ. I will remember who I am in Christ, and I will not accept anything other than the abundant life I have in Him. No more wasted energy for me! I'm free! Hallelujah!

Growing...

Today, I'd like to share a bit of what God's been doing in my life.

Lately God has been helping me grow. When I get angry with someone or frustrated with their actions or have my feelings hurt from careless words, I find myself taking a moment and talking to God. What begins as my pleas for justice or complaints of criticism or cries of pain ends with me contemplating things that I could have done better, ways I could have reacted in love, ways that I carelessly spoke out of turn....

Each time I am humbled and silenced by how much I still have left to learn.

It's so easy to get caught up in the moment. Pride can flare up in a flash. Emotions can cloud good judment. A perceived slight builds into a quest for retribution. All to quickly I can dip into behavior that I know is not reflective of who I am in Christ.

God is showing me that I am better. I don't have to give into pride, I don't have to react in turn, and I don't have to inflict pain just because I am hurting.

I am better.

I am better because God loved me enough to send His Son. I am better because His Son chose to die for my sins. I'm better because when I chose to accept His Son as my Savior, I received forgiveness, love, and redemption. On top of that, I am counted as a joint heir with Christ and get to live eternally with Him in Paradise!

I am better.

As this better person, I can react in a better way to the world around me. I don't have to sink to the level of sin. I don't have to make hasty decisions that leave lasting scars. I'm not always the victim, but now I see how I can be victorious in every situation.

It's not always easy. I'm not all the way there yet. Sometimes it literally hurts to swallow back that smart retort or respond in love to anger. But knowing God is happy with how I'm living and understanding how love can change any circumstance is helping me grow.

Knowing that I can do it, makes me want to do it all the more. God's growing me... and I love it!

Verse of the Day: The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Psalm 92:12

What Is Your Request?

When Solomon became king, the Lord appeared to him and told Solomon that whatever he asked, God would give to him. Solomon had grown up in the palace, he saw what his father David had accomplished and the opportunities that were awarded him. He also saw his father's battles, betrayals, and disappointments.

Solomon could have requested the greatest riches, an expanded kingdom, a strong and unbeatable army, faithful confidants... any number of things. Yet, Solomon asked for wisdom. He was tasked with leading one of the greatest nations on the earth at that time. He didn't want to mess up the legacy his father had left to him. Solomon wanted to lead God's people with confidence in all his decisions.

God was pleased when Solomon asked for wisdom. And because Solomon's request was right, all of the riches, prestige, and honor were given to him as well.

If God showed up and gave you the same question as he did Solomon, what would you ask for? If you knew that whatever you said would be instantly granted, what would you say?

It is important for us to always remember things in light of the big picture. Too many times our prayers to God are not focused on the right areas. We focus on trivial matters or our own selfish desires, not remembering that we are here on an eternal assignment.

Today, when you pray, think about the big picture. Think about the task that God has for you to do here on earth. What do you need in order to get your mission accomplished successfully?

Remember Jesus told us that whatever we asked believing, God would do. (Matthew 21:22) What do you really want God to do for you?

And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. 1 Kings 3:10-14

United We Stand

Today is a day of remembrance and prayer in America. The tragedy of 9/11 is etched in all of our hearts, and we will not forget the event that dramatically changed our lives.

In remembering this epic event, I cannot forget the unity that was displayed. So many volunteers stepped forward to help. So many people gave what they had, if it was money, expertise, or simply moral support. Communities gathered together to do what they could. People joined hands and bowed their heads together in prayer.

We were a nation united. As a result, we became strengthened and were able to move forward as one.

Today, it saddens my heart to see how divided we have become again. It seems like people can't respectfully disagree. Things are taken to such negative places. There is a lack of respect, a lack of concern for our fellow man, and an influx of vitriol and hate.

Living right outside of Chicago, I can't help but see how far we've fallen away. The increase in violence here is mind boggling. The fact that our teachers just engaged in a historic strike makes me ache for the children who are now missing school. And, don't get me started on the political atmosphere...

How did we find ourselves here again? Why can't we seem to find a plane where we all can exist in harmony with one another?

Today, let's remember the unity that was active following 9/11. Let's remember the patriotism, the sense of community, and the pride we had for our country. Let's choose to live in a way where we can agree to disagree. Let's put ourselves in the other person's shoes and allow ourselves to see things through someone else's eyes.

As Christians, we are to be the example. We are the ones who should speak up for what is right. We are the ones who should be bringing peace to situations. We are the ones who can promote change for the better. Let's make the effort to bring unity to the places we go and people we come in contact with today.

In unity, there is strength. Let's be that strength today.

Verse of the Day: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Your Choice

What I love about us is that we all have a choice. Nothing is pre-programmed or forced on us. We can choose God, or we can choose sin. We can choose to be complacent, or we can choose to act. We always have a choice, no matter the situation.

As human beings, we have the power to choose how we react. We don't have to be angry; we can choose to be at peace. Depression doesn't have to have it's way with us. We can choose to have joy.

Yes, some choices require much more discipline on our part. We may have to pull our emotions in, or train ourselves not to react negatively. However, once we make up our minds to do something, we have the power to make it happen. We just have to be willing to put in the work.

When Job lost everything he had, he chose to worship God. (Job 1:20) He didn't give in to despair. He didn't cry out curses against God. He bowed down and chose to worship in the midst of his pain.

As David faced trials and tribulation, rejection and rebellion, he didn't react in anger. He didn't slip into despondency. He chose encouragement. Even with no one else around, he took it upon himself to stay encouraged. (1 Samuel 30:6)

As Jesus bled on the cross, his body racked with pain, he wasn't angry. He wasn't bitter. He didn't even complain. He chose forgiveness. (Luke 23:34)

No matter what we face, we can choose the right path. We don't have to succumb to negative feelings or emotions. We can choose God's way. Sometimes it's easier to be angry. It's simpler to be bitter instead of choosing to forgive.

Yet, in looking at things in the picture of eternity, our lives will be richer when we choose God's way. David went on to be one of the greatest kings in history. Job was doubly blessed to replace all that he had lost. In giving His life, Jesus was able to become the Savior for all of mankind.

Today, ask God to help you to choose the right reactions and emotions. Think of how your life will be enriched when you choose the right way. Think of the blessings you will reap for choosing to rise above adversity. Yes, it may be difficult. Yes, it may require discipline. In the end, though, you will emerge as a strong, victorious example of strong character and love in the earth.

Verse of the Day: But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Thanksgiving Friday!

Hey! We made it through another week! God is so good. I hope you are enjoying life and living on purpose.

This week I'm thankful for God's voice. I've been hearing God talking a lot this week. He's been showing me some things - both in my life and the lives of some other folks - that are really helping me gain some perspective and make the right decisions. It's so good to have a God who is interested and concerned about your life! If you just settle yourself and give ear to what He's saying, God can reveal so much to you! Thank You, Lord, for speaking to me!

I'm thankful for my health and strength today too. No matter how hard sickness and disease may try to take hold, I'm thankful that I am healed in Jesus' name! No weapon formed against me shall prosper! Thank You, Lord, for Your healing!

Finally, I'm grateful to be inspired to action this week. I've been blessed to hear and see so many forms of greatness this week. I've witnessed people living on purpose, loving with the love of the Lord, and giving of themselves to others. I have been pushed to be and do better. Thanks, God, for surrounding me with such an amazing spread of righteous examples! I'm ready to go to work!

Throwback Thursday - P.U.S.H.!

Today we're going to look back at a post I did a while back. Since we've been talking about action this week, I felt this post would fit right in. Have a blessed day!

Christians love to use the acronym PUSH – Pray Until Something Happens. Today I’d like to redefine it: Pray, Prepare, and Perform Until Something Happens.


Too often, I feel, saints put all of the responsibility on God to make their visions, aspirations, and dreams come to pass. We pray and look to the skies for our blessings to fall in our lap without any hard work on our part. Yes, God is our Ultimate Help, and His whole mission for having us here is to fulfill His purpose for us. However, God wants us to be an active part of the process in realizing our dreams.

We cannot really appreciate obtaining God’s promises for us if we haven’t put any sweat into the process. If everything just appeared out of the sky, we would take our answered prayers for granted. There is growth in stepping out in faith trusting that God will fulfill His Word. Character is honed and defined when we take initiative and work the process to pave the way for the promise to develop.

How can God send your new job when you haven’t sent out your resume? What financial increase can you obtain if you’re always spending all of your extra money? How do you expect for your husband to find you when you’re running up behind every potential man you see without a wedding ring?

Okay, okay. I’ll leave you alone.

What I’m trying to say is we all have a part to play in causing some prayers to be answered. We have to actively position ourselves to receive the answer. Even if all we can do is speak the Word over our situation, then we must speak the Word! Faith without works is dead, so let’s revive our faith by putting our actions behind our prayers.

Verse of the Day: …I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18b

Inspired to Action!

Inspiration can come in many ways. We can see someone working and get inspired. We can hear a speech, attend an event, or even just watch a sunrise and be inspired.

But inspiration is not enough.

Inspiration is a feeling. Inspiration is something that takes place on the inside. What we do with inspiration is what matters. Lots of people get inspired one way or the other only to allow that feeling to pass. They bask in the animated feelings for the moment, but quickly lose sight of what they had experienced.

In order to properly utilize inspiration, you have to allow it to transform itself into motivation. You have to get provoked to do something with all of those happy, bouncing feelings on the inside. You have to set a goal.

Then you have to allow motivation to turn into action. So many people get stuck on motivation and never move to action! (Myself included) We love to be inspired. We get motivated after sitting down and envisioning ourselves being successful and thinking about how we can better our lives. But somewhere in the midst of putting our hands to do the action we lose all of our resolve.

Today, take some time to move further into action. Don't just think about what you can do, form out a plan and do something on that plan. Send an email, call a contact, write a proposal, buy the healthier option... Take action today!

The thing about action is once you start a ball rolling - it's rolling! You're on your way to the end goal. Today, get that ball rolling (or rolling again). Pray and ask the Lord to help you translate your inspiration into motivation into action. And if you have no inspiration, ask the Lord to fill you up with what you need to get going. Then, get going!

Verse of the Day: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Face You Fears... They'll Disappear

While reading yesterday, I ran across a quote that spoke to me:

Fear knocked, faith answered; no one was there.

Isn't that powerful?

I know I often wrestle with fear. I come up with all sorts of reasons of why not to do something. I imagine all of the bad endings, what could go wrong, how I could be embarrassed. If I choose to pay attention to those fears, nothing will be done.

Many of us are standing in front of unlocked doors, but we're afraid to open them because we see our fears on the other side. We think that as soon as we open the door, what we fear will smack us in our face and cause us harm.

It's funny though. When we decide to face our fear, and when we decide to open up the door, we often find nothing there. In fact, instead of fear we find courage, we find accomplishment, we find strength, and we find our better selves.

Even if what we feared does show up, somehow it's not as bad as we imagined. Even if the worst possible scenario ensues, we look back and find that we had the strength to endure and were made better for it. When we get the courage to face what we fear, we are able to grow.

Gideon was so afraid of leading the Israelites that He asked the Lord for several signs showing that He was with Gideon. Yet, once Gideon faced his fear and began his mission, we see him as a valiant and courageous leader in the face of the enemy.

What are you afraid of? What fears do you hear knocking on the doors of your mind? What's keeping you standing still in your tracks?

Don't allow fear to keep you from your destiny. Don't allow fear to keep you from moving forward. God has already done His part and opened up the door for you. Now, stop listening to fear, open the door, and move forward!

Happy Labor Day!

It's Labor Day! Hope you got the day off to rest, relax, and enjoy yourself. While we're resting from our work, let's take a moment with the help of David to remember the magnificence of our Heavenly Father.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish;
all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
