Thanksgiving Friday 3

Good morning everyone! We've reached the end of yet another week.

Today, I am most grateful for Jehovah Rapha, the Lord my Healer. After a bout with a stomach bug earlier this week, I am on the mend. I give praise to Jesus for taking those stripes on his back so that I can be healed. (I Peter 2:24)

I'm also giving God thanks for blessing me with the most amazing Father anyone could ever ask for! He has been above and beyond wonderful to me and my younger sister. I can look to him for support, wisdom, guidance, and strength at any time. He's always been there for me, and I am so blessed to have him as an example of a true man of God in my life.

Finally, I'm giving God praise for this thing called life. He has given us this chance to praise and worship Him out of our own freewill, and I will bless His name at all times! This journey is showing me the truth of His Love, the power of His Word, and the blessing of His Joy. I wouldn't want my life any other way.

Enjoy your weekend!

Your Slate Can Be Clean

It’s always great to start over. To have a clean slate. To have no errors or mistakes. I love it when things stretch out before me just waiting for me to fill them up with success. Often, though, I fall back into the same old routine: procrastination, missed deadlines, mistakes in execution. All the errors cause me to feel like I need a whole new beginning, and I start to look for another opportunity to have a fresh start devoid of mistakes.

Thank goodness that our right standing with God is not contingent on keeping our slates clean! Every day we get a chance to ‘start over’ and make our Heavenly Father proud. We don’t have to worry about how we fell into sin the day before. We don’t have to be concerned with how we may have missed out on an assignment that God had given us to fulfill.

All God wants from us is a truly contrite heart, one that is honestly seeking to do His will. When we ask Him for forgiveness, we can partake in his grace and mercy that is always there to provide our clean slate. God isn’t asking for our perfection – He’s asking for our dedication. As we dedicate ourselves to following Him, He will take care of keeping us ‘white as snow’ before Him.

So, enjoy your day today! You have a clean slate with your heavenly Father. No condemnation. No reason to be ashamed. God’s grace is sufficient to cover our multitude of sins, and for that we should be truly grateful.

Verse of the Day: It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22, 23

Fruit Shortage?

It saddened my heart to hear the news about a good Samaritan who was left to die on a public street the other day. If you haven’t seen the story, check out the link . Basically, the young man helped a young woman who was being assaulted in the street. He was stabbed several times in the process. As he lay, bleeding, several people walked by. Many noticed him lying there: one rolled him over, another took a picture with his phone… no one helped him or called for assistance. Everything was caught on surveillance tape. It was over an hour before help came, and by then the man was dead.

Is this what our nation has come to? Have we become so hardened that we don’t even pause for someone in need? What does it take for us to step outside of ourselves and care about others? What would cause someone to justify that kind of behavior?

What is clear is that Christians have a lot of work left to do. We are nowhere near accomplishing the creed that Jesus gave out to us. If we were on our job to the degree that we should be, the world would be blossoming with the fruit of our labor and reflected in how we all treated each other.

Jesus says that we are known by our fruit. (Matthew 7:20) It’s evident that the world is doing a bang-up job of producing more of their kind. What kind of fruit is the church producing? (Are we producing any at all?) Where is the harvest we were sent here to gather? Where are the souls that we are supposed to be bringing into the Kingdom?

With everything that’s going on today, all signs are pointing to Jesus coming back. Keeping that in mind, what kind of glorious church are we going to present to Him? If he came back today, could you say that you’ve done all you could to permeate the world with His love?

Think about it.

Then do something about it.

Leaders of Integrity

Yesterday my church celebrated our Apostle’s birthday. We had special presentations and a delicious dinner after service. It was wonderful to hear everyone’s testimony about how much they appreciated the leadership, love, and support our Apostle has for our congregation.

It got me thinking. Sadly, a lot of people have given up on going to or belonging to a church because they don’t have faith in the leaders. Many men and women have mistreated numerous Christians while holding the office of a pastor.

But praise God for the ones who are doing the right thing! I’ve received so much instruction, wisdom, encouragement, and love because of men and women who walk worthy of their calling. Their words have brought inspiration, innovation, and have quickened my faith.

I hope you can say the same thing about your leaders. If so, be sure to cover them in prayer and give God thanks for blessing your life. Take a moment and give them an encouraging call, email, or text. If your spiritual life lacks a genuine man or woman of God, ask God to show you where to go. You need to have a good Shepherd to lead you as you go through life. Trust me, there are still people of integrity out there!

Verse of the Day: And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15

Thanksgiving Friday 3

Hey guys! We have made it through another week! Hallelujah!

This week I am thankful for the joy of the Lord that has been constantly with me. Despite a wierd Tuesday, and a couple busy evenings, God brought me through this week with a smile on my lips - and that's rare! Thank you, Jesus, for your joy!

I'm also thankful for God's peace. It's so wonderful to go about your day without stress or worry. Even when faced with problems, God's peace has a way of making anything that comes my way bearable. It's so wonderful to bask in His peace.

On top of that, God has blessed me with wonderful family and friends. I can laugh, talk, brainstorm, and find comfort in the group of people that God has placed in my life. Thank you, Lord, for my folks!

I'm sure you have your list of things to thank God for as well. Take a few minutes and let God know how much you appreciate His love.

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Verse of the Day: I will tell of the Lord’s unfailing love. I will praise the Lord for all he has done. I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel, which he has granted according to his mercy and love. Isaiah 63:7 (NLT)

The Presence of the Lord is Here

I guess it was my post on yesterday, but this morning I woke up with a smile on my face and a song in my heart. Those that know me understand that this is unusual. I am not a smiley, happy-go-lucky person. I’m a bit more reserved and aloof. I hold particular disdain for all of that cheery fluff.

But today is different. I can literally feel the joy of the Lord bubbling up inside of me! I actually sang with the angels while I showered. I couldn’t help but grin as I sped up the highway on my way to work.

I know you’re wondering what happened to cause me to be so joyful. New job? Nope. Get some money? Nuh-uh. Finally get engaged? Not at all. So, what is it? To be honest, not a thing has changed from last night until now. I’m in the same exact spot, but I feel like I’ve overcome the world! I am basking in a glorious outpouring of God’s love, and it’s amazing!

Our Heavenly Father doesn’t need a reason to shower us with His love. In fact every day He’s waiting there with open arms willing to smother us with His presence. It’s just up to us to take the time to tap into the spirit and receive what He’s waiting to give.

I guess this morning was my turn to experience a “free sample” of what I could be partaking in each day if I took some time to meditate on the goodness of the Lord. And even though I sometimes take pride in my sarcasm and cynical nature, I am going to make an effort to keep this spirit of joy alive in my heart. I have to admit, this is the best feeling in the world!

Verse of the Day: A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Pull Up Some Joy!

With all of the chaos that’s going on in the world today, it may be a bit hard to find some joy. It’s so easy to focus on everything that seems to be going wrong: the job you can’t find, the money you don’t have, the inspiration that you’ve lost… How can one find joy in the midst of so much despair?

I love the scripture that where it talks about David encouraging himself in the Lord. (I Samuel 30:6) Often encouragement comes down to us deliberately choosing to look past the problem and see the God that is always there. No matter what we go through, God is always orchestrating things for our good. We just get so caught up in the process that we tend to disregard the positives sometimes.

Don’t let this happen to you. Whenever you feel despair knocking at your door, block it out by remembering the goodness of the Lord. Remember how He helped you overcome obstacles in times past. Remember where He sent unexpected blessings in your time of need. Think of how He sent His mercy when you knew you deserved punishment. Take heart in how he rescued you from destruction.

God is so good! And He is the same God today that He was when He walked you through all of those other valleys of darkness. Don’t lose hope! Reach deep inside and pull up some joy! The joy of the Lord will give you the strength to make it through! (Nehemiah 8:10)

Verse of the Day: We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8, 9

Hold on a Sec...

There used to be days where I would wake up and step into a whirlwind of activities, errands, responsibilities, that kept me running here and there until I fell into my bed exhausted at the end of the day. On those nights I would drift off to sleep with a slight twinge of guilt because I knew that God received zero quality time while I zipped around all day.

I have learned to purpose to set apart times each day when I can spend time with my Heavenly Father. Whether its five minutes, or an hour, I make a point to pause and acknowledge my God each day. Usually our time is in the mornings before all the noise and distractions can kick into high gear. Sometimes I wait until my lunch or at night before I go to bed.

No matter the time of day, all God wants is for us to personally show Him attention and love. We take the time to go to work, watch our favorite television shows, drive through our favorite food joints, catch up on our favorite celebrities... the least we can do is take a few minutes to have a conversation with the One who enabled us to accomplish all those things.

As you go about your day today, make an effort to still yourself and spend some quality time with God. You’ll be amazed how much He can share with you in a short amount of time. Plus, as you continue to make it a habit, I’ll be those things that seem so important right now will lose their place on the totem pole as your life is enriched with God’s Presence.

Verse of the Day: Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Psalm 145:2

Free Sample Day

It’s a brand new week, a brand new day, a brand new opportunity to make my Heavenly Father proud. Today, I am determined to showcase His glory through my life. I am going out purposely looking for instances where I can be an example of His love.

No matter what may come at me, I am going to respond the way Christ would respond. My personal feelings mean nothing. What matters is how God feels about the situation. If pleasing Him means that I feel uncomfortable – uncomfortable I will be. The ultimate priority is pleasing Him.

As God is magnified, I know that others will be impacted and blessed. As He is exalted, I know that people will want to know who He is, and I look forward to telling them about Him.

The greatest example we can give of Christ’s love is with our own lives. Make today “Free Sample Day” of Jesus’ love. As you make it available, people are going to keep coming back for something so good! Think of how many can come to know our Savior with your generosity!

Thanksgiving Friday 2

Today I’m thankful for my creativity. God has blessed me with an innovative mind that has helped me accomplish many great things. I’m thankful that I have the brains and the whimsy to dream up big things – and I’m thankful that God is now showing me that I have the guts to turn them into reality.

I’m thankful that my creativity is opening doors for me and making my way prosperous. As I step out into the purpose He has for me, I am stepping into the fullest life I could ever expect! God is so good!

Thank you Lord for all of the gifts that you’ve given to me! Thank you for making me special and unique with talents and expertise exclusive to myself. I’m so glad that I can give these gifts right back to you and give you all the glory! Thank you for trusting me with such precious jewels.

I’m thankful to be alive at this time in this place with the people I have around me. Lord, you are so good! Thank You for blessing me with your awesome presence!

Verse of the Day: I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. Psalm 116:17

Lights, Camera, Action!

I love reality shows! It's so entertaining to watch 'real people' go through crazy situations on television. It's a way for me to live vicariously without any repercussions (except for lost time, of course).

My faves are the ones where a person's skills or talents are showcased such as So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef, and Project Runway. There's something about seeing someone enmeshed in their passion and fighting their butts off to show that they are the best at their game.

I love to watch the light in their eyes, the fire in their movements, and the skill in their submissions. It's so inspiring to see someone be the best that they can be.

You and I may never participate in a reality show, but we do have opportunities every day to shine in what God put us on this earth to accomplish. What is it that you know that you can do best? Have you done anything with that gift lately? Why not take a few moments today and be the Master You that you know you are?

In addition to having that warm fuzzy feeling of doing what you love, you can take satisfaction in knowing that you are making your Creator proud. Plus, who knows? Reveling in your passion today may get you your own 'show' tomorrow!

Let's go get our shine on, guys!

Surviving the Unexpected

I love things to work decently and in order, like my God. (I Corinthians 14:40) So, when unexpected things happen, sudden changes occur, or circumstances veer off course, I tend to have issues… major issues.

I know that change is a part of life, but that part is one I have yet to reconcile with. What I have learned over the years, though, is to factor God into every situation. Everything changes when viewed through the prism of the Omnipotence of God. Knowing that God allows everything to happen helps me realize that I can cope with whatever is thrown my way.

It also calms me down. Maybe there’s so much traffic to keep me from getting into an accident up the road. Maybe the person I’m waiting for is taking so long so that I can speak with someone I never would have even looked at. The possibilities are endless.

So as you go about your day today, don’t let the unexpected twists and turns get to you. Look through each happening through the prism of your Omnipotent God. He probably is doing something greater than you think.

Verse of the Day: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Reality vs. Perfection

There used to be mornings where I just wanted to roll over and stay in bed – forever. Life outside my room was too complicated, annoying, and mostly what I didn’t want it to be. I would lay there and imagine my Perfect Life. I dreamed it up when I was little. (Fifty bucks says you have one too.) The Perfect Life is where I’m a famous writer, married to my rich husband, living in a castle on a hill with money piled up in a treasure chest in the basement. We have two perfect little boys - who adore me - and go off on expensive family vacations in our private jet.

Real Life never beat Perfect Life. So I just laid there a few moments more, reveling in the Perfect Life. And then my alarm would buzz again, and I had to get out of bed to experience the bleakness of my Real Life once more.

But who said there wasn't a Perfect Life out there waiting for me? I was a child of the King, so I knew that He didn’t just send me here to lie around and dream about some other life I made up for myself. And I knew He didn’t create me just to prattle away in some existence that I didn't really care for.

So, how did I figure out what would bring that satisfaction? What steps did I take to get to the place where I wake up, smile, and jump out of bed excited for the day (and it’s not a Saturday or a vacation day – lol)?

The answer was with my Creator. He made me knowing what would make me happy because he put that spot there in the first place. He put a Purpose inside of me that will cause me to accomplish my individual Utopia once it’s achieved. It only comes down to me to step out and live out the Purpose He has for me.

So now, instead of laying in bed dreaming of the Perfect Life, I lay and talk to my Heavenly Father who gives me insight on how to live my Real Life. When I follow his instructions, things always come together in such perfect ways. Getting out of bed isn’t that difficult anymore. And I must say: I’m pretty sure that my Real Life will be much better for me than that Perfect Life ever could.

Today’s Verse: For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

Speaking Up

So my mom declared yesterday “Family Day” and after church we all went to see a Chinese dance showcase. The show was okay, but what caught my attention was how blatant the performers were in promoting their Buddhist religion. Over half of the songs and dances were speaking on their faith.

It got me thinking. A lot of us Christians are very private with our faith. Think about it. When was the last time you talked with someone – outside your faith – about the love of God? (And I’m not talking about a debate either.) When’s the last time you spoke on how your Christianity strengthens your daily life? (Facebook statuses don’t count.) Has someone come to realize the greatness of Jesus because of a discussion they had with you? Do the people around you even know that you're saved?

I know that I can 'self-intimidate' myself into staying silent at times. I let fear of other people's reactions cause me to hesistate in sharinng the Gospel. But it's time for me to let go of fear and choose to obey the creed that Jesus left for all Christians. He told us to go into all the world and preach the gospel, and who am I to disobey His will? (Mark 16:15)

So, let’s challenge ourselves, shall we? Today, let’s purpose to speak up about the God we serve. Let’s make an effort to utilize the ‘windows’ that God puts in our path and shift someone’s focus to the Lord. Who knows what souls could be saved as a result of our boldness!

Today’s Verse: For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed… Luke 9:26

Thanksgiving Friday 1

We all know the phrase Thank God It's Friday, and I've decided to thank God every Friday on this site. Feel free to join in!

Thank you, Lord for all Your many blessings! Thank You for keeping me in safety and peace throughout this week. Thank You for the love of my family and friends.

When I was alone, You were there to Comfort me. When I had a problem, You gave me peace to withstand the storm. You've guided my life to this point and have never failed me. You've kept me healthy and strong all these years. I've never lacked for any good thing. All my needs have been met, and I am able to give to others out of my overflow.

Thanks for everything you've done and continue to do for me. It's amazing because I don't deserve any of it. You have remained faithful to Your Word. Thank You, Jesus!

You are Magnificent, Glorious, Righteous and True! You are the Omnipotent Living God! There's none like You, and I'm glad You have given me the privilege of getting closer to You every day. I'm so proud to be Your child.

God is good, everyone. Give the Lord a praise!

Verse of the Day: Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Psalm 97:12

The Hardest Thing

When I was younger, I was one of those kids who would get mad when a person was nice to someone who they argued with the day before. It didn't make sense to me. How can you be friends with someone you were just so angry with? From that example you can surmise that forgiveness is something I work hard to maintain.

I'm a creative person, so if someone got on my bad side, I would spend time plotting ways to be rude or pay them back for their mistreatment. I could come up with some really great stuff too! - And then I would remember that I was a Christian... and not just a Christian in lip service only, but a fully practicing, Bible-knowing, living as an example Christian.

All the verses would scroll through my mind: Vengence is mine says the Lord... Be angry and sin not... Put away all bitterness and anger... It would all spring up out of nowhere! But I wanted to put it all on the shelf for one good minute, so I could enjoy the satisfaction of really giving it to that other person!

But you can't do that when you're truly saved. Why? Because you know Who's watching. You feel the Holy Spirit prompting you to hold back. You think of how Christ went through so much more and never slipped into sin. You put yourself in that person's shoes and actually consider how they might feel...

And then you swallow the hugest lump in your throat, put a vice grip on your Christianity, and - choose - to - Forgive.

Maybe the person never even said they were sorry. Maybe the person continues to be a problem for you. Maybe you feel humiliated and small.

But maybe your kindess causes the other person to change. Maybe the person comes back another day and shows you kindness. Maybe the person sees the God in you and wants the same thing for themselves.

One thing that's for certain: God saw your act of mercy, and will definitely show you mercy and give you a great reward (Matthew 5). I may not plot revenge anymore, but I like to think that God takes note of how I purpose to forgive.

Beyond that, though, God forgave me of so many trifling things that I've done! Over and over again He forgives me when I do wrong. Who am I to withhold that kind of love from someone else? What gives me the right not to show the same kind of compassion? Even if I don't receive a reward or special blessing, I should still work to forgive others because I have the blessing of the unconditional love of Jesus! I have plenty of love to spread around.

Today's Verse: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:44, 45

He Can Handle It

Right now I guess it's my 'testing' period. Time to see if I'm truly down to live how God wants, or if I'll fold under the pressure. It's been no cakewalk either. It seems like everywhere I look something negative is going on. I don't remember the last time I had so many dramatic things happening in my life.

Anyway, this is also turning into a period of growth for me. I'm praying more, fasting more, in the Word more, and taking strides to better myself. So, on one hand, this is pretty great, on the other - it's rough. I mean, really, really, really, really rough.

Through it all, though, I'm learning to trust God... not just saying that I trust God, but really putting it all on the altar, walking away, and trusting Him to handle things. It seems like whenever I touch them, they just go up in smoke anyway. So, why bother?

The key to trusting God (for me at least) is to keep an ear cocked for His voice. Listen to what He has to say, and then follow His instructions to the letter. And if nothing is heard: BE STILL! Wait on the Lord! He knows what He's doing.

This, by far, has been the hardest thing for me. I am very impatient when something needs to be fixed. If nothing seems to be happening, I try to fix it myself. I can't stand for things to stay broken when something can be done! So, truly leaving my problems up to God has been a struggle.

But I'm realizing that God leaves some things broken for reason. Maybe He wants me to see why it broke. Maybe He wants me to realize how much the issue had taken up my life. He might want me to recognize that only He is capable of fixing things to where they won't get broken again. On the other hand, He may want whatever it is to stay broken so that I let it go and allow Him to fill the void.

No matter what the reason for this time in my life, I am letting God make all the repairs. I know I was a factor in some of these broken items, and there are other areas where I don't know what happened or why... What I do know is that God causes everything to work out for my good (Romans 8:28). So, I will continue to let him handle things despite my itching to work them out on my own.

Verse of the Day: Be still, and know that I am God... Psalm 46:10a

Dying Daily

Ever been on one of those great spiritual streaks? You know, when your life is so blessed, you're happy, loving on God, feeling His power work through you... The times where you get breakthroughs with every prayer, new insights with every scripture you read... You heart is full of love for your fellow man and nothing fazes you because you are God's child.

You know what always seems to happen to me with those times in my life? Some event, some person, or some situation always finds a way to trip that hairline trigger I have. Suddenly I find myself on the opposite side of committing some kind of sin, a sin I thought I had dealt with, conquered, and buried. Even worse, sometimes it's a new one that I didn't even know was an issue for me.

It doesn't have to be big, but just the fact that I was able to fall back into that sinful nature always sends a blow to my heart. The blessed high that was just enveloping my every moment is quickly lost, replaced by shame, regret, and sadness.

I have to go back to the altar and ask for forgiveness. Praise God that His mercy never runs out!

It's easy to forget that we are all works in progress... especially when we have a period of good behavior. The Bible says to not think more highly of ourselves than we should. The same chapter speaks on presenting ourselves daily as a living sacrifice. (Romans 12) We should willfully give ourselves up to the cleansing fire of the Holy Sprit to purge away all the impurities of sin whether we think it's there or not. Trust me, God will find a way to send anything hidden bubbling up to the surface.

Today's Verse: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21

New Beginnings

I've been thinking of starting this blog for a few months now. Don't ask me why it took me so long to get it started... But, here it is! I'm so excited.

This will be the spot for me to journal thoughts on my spirituality and faith. I'm not trying to preach or put down a bunch of persuasive arguments or anything. I just want to share how I feel. Being a young, single, Christian woman in this post-millennial America - I think I'll have plenty of subjects to spout off on.

Hopefully, you will find some nuggets of inspiration and wisdom hidden in my musings. Better yet - maybe you'll be able to leave comments of inspiration for me! This blog is not meant to be a one-sided conversation - everything I write is open for discussion. I only ask for respect.

So, let's get started, shall we?
