It saddened my heart to hear the news about a good Samaritan who was left to die on a public street the other day. If you haven’t seen the story, check out the link . Basically, the young man helped a young woman who was being assaulted in the street. He was stabbed several times in the process. As he lay, bleeding, several people walked by. Many noticed him lying there: one rolled him over, another took a picture with his phone… no one helped him or called for assistance. Everything was caught on surveillance tape. It was over an hour before help came, and by then the man was dead.
Is this what our nation has come to? Have we become so hardened that we don’t even pause for someone in need? What does it take for us to step outside of ourselves and care about others? What would cause someone to justify that kind of behavior?
What is clear is that Christians have a lot of work left to do. We are nowhere near accomplishing the creed that Jesus gave out to us. If we were on our job to the degree that we should be, the world would be blossoming with the fruit of our labor and reflected in how we all treated each other.
Jesus says that we are known by our fruit. (Matthew 7:20) It’s evident that the world is doing a bang-up job of producing more of their kind. What kind of fruit is the church producing? (Are we producing any at all?) Where is the harvest we were sent here to gather? Where are the souls that we are supposed to be bringing into the Kingdom?
With everything that’s going on today, all signs are pointing to Jesus coming back. Keeping that in mind, what kind of glorious church are we going to present to Him? If he came back today, could you say that you’ve done all you could to permeate the world with His love?
Think about it.
Then do something about it.
Verse of the Day: And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:32
